58 killed in 4 days: Bodies of those who died of coronavirus infection were cremated even at midnightin cemeteries


Coimbatore: In Coimbatore, 58 people have died in the last 4 days due to COvid-19.

A district administration official said, the bodies of those who died of the coronavirus infection are being cremated in cemeteries even during midnight. The second wave of coronavirus infection started last March. Coronavirus infection began to increase rapidly and the death rate was higher in the second wave than in the first wave.

In Coimbatore, 15 people died on the 16th, 14 on the 17th, 19 on the 18th and 20 on the 20th. The bodies of the dead are being cremated in electric cemeteries in Coimbatore at midnightas the death toll is rising.

In view of the increasing number of deaths, steps are being taken to cremate the bodies of the deceased in 12 electric cemeteries in Coimbatore. A district administration official said, "15 people died in a single day during the first wave. After that there was only a single digit death. But the death toll has doubled over the past week. Thus additional electric cemeteries have been prepared for cremation.

Accordingly, steps have been taken to set-up 2 cemeteries at Saravanampatti, 12 cemeteries at Singanallur, Nanjundapuram, Kavundampalayam, Veerakeralam, Thudiyalur, Peelamedu, Athupalam, Sokkamputhur, Podanur and Siddhapudur. In addition, bushes are being removed to bury the bodies of the dead in small cemeteries."
