To ensure treatment facilities don’t run of out of oxygen, Coimbatore likely to get war room working 24x7
Coimbatore: Not just Archana Padmakar, a Chennai resident who made a late night call to COVID-19 war room were in surprise but it is the people of Tamil Nadu too, upon knowing that the her distress call for beds was answered by the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu M.K. Stalin and was soon provided with beds.
Stalin was on a surprise visit to the war room, that services 200 hospitals and nursing homes in Chennai, providing timely help, beds for the needy and assisting suppliers and police ensuring that all those in need gets beds and oxygen support.
In a bid to prevent acute shortage of oxygen supply to those in need the Tamil Nadu government on May 6 set up war room in Chennai to prevent Delhi like incidents in the state.
Beginning to function from May 6, the control room was seen assisting people with timely help and two such recent incident is of Archana Padmakar in Chennai and the supply of life saving gas to the hospital in Tuticorin.
Following the same and in line with the cases of people requiring admission and oxygen support in hospitals in Coimbatore , the state’s health minister Ma. Subramanian on Saturdaysaid that the district along with Madurai and Salem will soon get war room like Chennai to prevent crisis.
Coimbatore is continuing to be second in the table for the increase in fresh Covid cases in the state. Like other districts, Coimbatore too see spike in cases and also in the number of people requiring oxygen support.
Days after when the district was in news for the mismanagement and lack of availability of beds for the patients, who were forced to wait on ambulances, the health department of Tamil Nadu announced the implementation of oxygen control room. While this helps people get timely help than waiting outside hospital for getting beds, the daily spike in cases looks worrying.
Doctors say that it is the much needed one as they can get in touch with the war room employees who would assist them with their demands. Group of doctors including anaesthesia specialists, working at Covid wards, say that the setting up of war room helps them.
While hospitals are still equipped with oxygen and can manage shortages easily, it is with the nursing home that actually needs it, said a siddha doctor adding that it brings glimmer of hope.
Ma. Subramanian, state health minister also added that the war rooms will have minute to minute updates on beds available in hospitals. Infected people and their families can call the concerned officials to get the information.
