Second shot of COVID-19 vaccine can be administered in any hospital: Tamil Nadu Government

Coimbatore: Ensuring that second dose of Covid19 vaccine be given to those who had their first shot, the Tamil Nadu Government’s Health Minister C. Vijayabaskar on Mondaysaid that people can have their second shot of vaccine in any hospital, irrespective of where the previous dose was administered.

This move came as a respite to those who are seeking for the second dose in the state. However, many prominent persons including journalists took to Twitter and other social media platforms saying that there is no availability of vaccines for the second dose.

Besides, with the shortage of vaccines, are confused in taking the second dose by choosing another vaccine instead of the vaccine they have already administered with. Doctors advice them not to shift between the vaccines and asked to take the second dose of the same vaccine.

Even though the interval time for the second dose of vaccines for Covaxin and Covishield varies, the doctors say that people must take the second shot to experience the full benefit of the vaccine. One can get an appointment for taking the second dose in a vaccine centre, where the same vaccine is being administered as the vaccine type of the first dose, by registering in CoWin app.

It is also told that the public can get their second dose of vaccine at any state or districts and the only concern is that they will be able to get vaccinated with the same vaccine they have already administered with, in a centre that offers the same vaccine.
