Ganga Hospital awarded the prestigious IMC Ramkrishna Bajaj National Quality Award 2019 for Healthcare

Ganga Medical Centre and Hospitals have placed India on the world map for Orthopaedics, Plastic Surgery and Anaesthesia.



Coimbatore: Ganga Medical Centre & Hospitals (GMCH), Coimbatore is one of the largest speciality centres for orthopaedics and plastic surgery in the whole of South Asia.

The hospital has been awarded with the IMC Ramkrishna Bajaj Quality Award 2019 for healthcare for their highly appreciative social responsibility exhibited at numerous community based projects, notably the highly subsidised rehabilitation centre for spinal cord injured patients and the free reconstructive surgeries for burns victims through ‘Hope after Fire’ project.

Ganga Medical Centre and Hospitals have placed India on the world map for Orthopaedics, Plastic Surgery and Anaesthesia. In 2018, the hospital treated over 200,000 outpatients and performed over 25,000 major surgeries.

As per data, Ganga Medical Centre in 2019, has treated 1,54,000 outpatients and performed 25,642 major surgeries. With most surgeries being complicated, patients are referred from all over the country and neighbouring countries for the best treatment.

The hospital is also well-known for its high-end clinical and basic science research and has won many international awards and the departments have contributed more than 600 international research papers published in major international journals and contributed more than 150 chapters in various international textbooks.

IMC Ramkrishna Bajaj National Quality Award:

The IMC Ramkrishna Bajaj National Quality Award for ‘Performance Excellence’ is one of the most prestigious awards for quality and was established in 1995.

The award winning institutions are evaluated on seven categories encompassing the entire organisation and institutions are evaluated by a panel of eminent jury who evaluate the character and mission of the institution, process, continuous improvements and customer’s delight exceeding expectations.

In a press release issued by the Ganga Medical Centre and Hospitals it is said, "These awards are one of the most respected awards in the whole country and we are proud that Ganga Medical Centre & Hospitals (GMCH), Coimbatore has been the recipient of this award for 2019 under the health care category.

The hospital was started in 1978 by its founders Dr J G Shanmuganathan and Mrs Kanakavalli Shanmuganathan and the speciality units in orthopaedics and plastic surgery were set up in 1992 by their sons Dr S Raja Sabapathy and Dr S Rajasekaran.

It is now a giant medical institution with 650 beds, 36 operating theatres and a team of the most eminent and skilled doctors in the country.
