Thiamine-rich Foods To Treat Beriberi

Beriberi is a disease caused by the deficiency of vitamin B1. Vitamin B1 is also known as thiamine. Beriberi can be categorised into three types. It involves the nervous system, the cardiovascular system and the third type that is related to the age of a patient. Beriberi affects the major functions of the body such as the muscles, heart, nervous system and the digestive system.

The symptoms of this disease include weight loss, emotional disturbance, pain in the limbs and an irregular heart rate. Like mentioned earlier, the treatment for this disease is thiamine alone. Patients must be given foods rich in vitamin B1. This disease is common in under-developed countries, where people are not fed with fortified vitamin-rich foods.

Even though the problem may sound severe, it can be cured by giving the patients certain vitamin B1 - rich foods. There are several vitamin-rich foods that are available, which can cure beriberi. In this article, we at Boldsky will be listing out some of the foods that can be used to treat beriberi effectively.
