Are The Effects Of Obesity More Dangerous Than Smoking?

If you are a person who does not smoke cigarettes because you know the fact that it is unhealthy, then there must have been a few times where you advised your smoker friend to quit the vice, right?

Well, think back, how many times have you asked a friend or a loved one to lose weight because you felt that their body weight was reaching unhealthy levels?

Not often, right? That is because many of us feel that advising a person to lose weight could hurt their feelings or affect their self-confidence.

However, we do not realise that being overweight or obese is also harmful to health, just like smoking or drinking in excess is.

So, it is very important to know the fact that if you are or someone you know is overweight or obese, it is very unhealthy and can be harmful to the body.

Now, we all know that smoking is a very harmful vice, which can become addictive and even be fatal to a person.

It is said that approximately 40% of long-term heavy smokers are affected with major diseases that can take their life away!

In fact, even smoking just 1 or 2 cigarettes in a day can affect your health in extreme ways.

The nicotine content in cigarettes is the main ingredient that allows the toxins to settle in your blood and lungs, causing diseases.

Some of the common side effects of cigarette smoking are respiratory ailments, cough, chest congestion, sinusitis, headache, wheezing, allergies, mood swings, appetite changes, agitation, restlessness, mouth and stomach ulcers, lung failure, lung cancer, etc.

So, we know that smoking is a dangerous habit. Now, a recent research study has stated that being obese can actually be more harmful to your health than smoking cigarettes. Find out how, here.

Cigarette Smoking Versus Obesity

If you or someone around you is overweight or obese to an unhealthy level, that is, their BMI (body mass index) is higher than the normal range, then their health could be at a major risk!

In fact, obesity is linked to a number of health disorders, including both psychological and physiological ones, and some of which can also be fatal!

For instance, obesity could be the root cause for diseases like high blood pressure, high cholesterol, joint pain, digestive disorders, heart ailments, depression, etc.

So, now we know that both cigarette smoking and obesity are extremely harmful to health. But, the question is which one of the above is more harmful than the other.

A recent research study has said that obesity can be slightly more harmful than cigarette smoking because it can cause diseases like heart ailments that can instantly kill a person.

Even diabetes can be caused by being obese, which is a very common disease that has no cure.

After comparing statistics, the researchers said that the number of deaths caused by diseases related to obesity is higher than the number of deaths caused by cigarette smoking.

In conclusion, although both obesity and smoking can be extremely harmful for health, obesity is more damaging!
