Students from Tirupur district won the championship in the South Indian karate competition held in Erode.
Coimbatore: A South India level karate competition was held in Erode, in which more than 1,000 students from various districts participated.
Students in the age group of five to 15 years participated in the competition. More than 75 students from Tirupur district participated in the competition.
Over all, the students of Tirupur won 13 gold, 26 silver and 39 bronze medals in the kata and kumite categories respectively.
They also won three bicycles as a special prize in the Open Kumite category. The Tirupur team also won the overall championship.
