Coimbatore: S A Pranav, a young lad from Yuvabharathi Public School won the silver medal at the 17th National Ice Speed Skating Championship which was held at the Ambience Mall in Gurgaon on May 30 and 31.

He won the silver medal in the 15-17 years age category.

Almost 300 ice skaters from various age groups from below 10 years, 10 to 13 years, 13 to 15 years, 15 to 17 years, 17 to 19 years, above 19 senior men and women participated in the championship at Gurgaon. The Ambience Mall in Gurgaon has the only indoor ice rink in India which is an 80-meter rink. Other rinks in India are open rinks in Gulmarg in Kashmir and Leh Ladakh in Himachal Pradesh.
The participants were boys and girls from Kashmir, Leh Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, Delhi, Haryana, Andhra Pradesh, Telengana, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, Chattisgarh, Punjab and Uttarkhand.

"The Championship was being held after a two-year pandemic break and so being on ice after two years and with a limited 12-day practice to win a silver medal is good for Pranav, especially since North Indian participants go there regularly and practice. He will now continue in Team India," exulted S A Pranav's father.
