SPB Vanam was officially inaugurated on December 10, 2020 by Padma Shri Dr. Vivekh to commemorate the life of S P Balasubrahmanyam.
Coimbatore: A unique tree tribute at 'SPB Vanam' was rendered to Padma Vibhushan Sripathi Panditaradhyula Balasubrahmanyam (SPB) by Siruthuli on May 22 at SPB Vanam, in the city's Pachapalayam area, in the presence of S P B Charan and S P Sailaja.
The singers who were in town for a concert visited SPB Vanam to pay their homage to S P Balasubrahmanyam.

They were accompanied by late Malaysia Vasudevan’s son Yugendran and Mouna Ragam Murali.
SPB Vanam was officially inaugurated on December 10, 2020 by Padma Shri Dr. Vivekh to commemorate the life of S P Balasubrahmanyam. 74 saplings with 14 varieties of trees like Rosewood, Red Sanders, Neem, Silver Oak, Vengai, Teak, Bamboo, Panruti, Jack fruit, Sandal, Mango, Ebony, Mahogany, etc. whose wood is used for making musical instruments like Tambura, Violin, Veena, Flute - and another seven varieties of saplings associated with SPB – like Shenbagam, Punnai, Maghizham, etc were also planted.
The event held on Sunday began with the rendition of the Noyyal Vazhthu. This was followed by the inauguration of a plaque with an inscription of the image of SPB along with a verse from one of his popular numbers - இந்த தேகம் மறைந்தாலும் இசையாய் மலர்வேன் and the names of the saplings planted at the site.

The plaque was inaugurated by S P B Charan followed by the lighting of the lamp by both guests. One minute of silence was observed for the departed soul. Chandrasekar, Convenor – Forests First Forum welcomed the gathering.

The guests then planted saplings at the site and also walked through the plantation enjoying the sight.

S P B Charan and S P Sailaja expressed their sincere gratitude to Siruthuli for having created a unique memorial for SPB. Managing Trustee of Siruthuli, Vanitha Mohan shared the experience of how SPB Vanam came into being.
Shanthi Prasad, Pachapalayam Panchayat President along with Vijaya, President–Officer’s Colony were facilitated for the efforts taken by them to maintain the plantation site.

The event was well-attended by the locals, the apex members and staff of Siruthuli.
Today SPB Vanam houses more than 1700 saplings of approximately 50 varieties. The entire bio-diversity of the area has changed ever since the trees have grown to a fair size in less than 18 months.
