Wildlife survey work has begun in all four wildlife sanctuaries in the Pollachi forest reserve area from May 24 to 31.
Coimbatore: The Anaimalai Tiger Reserve has kick-started its summer wildlife survey.
In the Pollachi forest reserve under the Anaimalai Tiger Reserve, there are four wildlife sanctuaries namely (Ulandi) Topslip, Manampalli, Pollachi and Valparai. These sanctuaries are home to different species of wildlife such as elephants, leopards, tigers, spotted deer and lion-tailed monkeys. At the Anaimalai Tiger Reserve, wildlife surveys are conducted annually, both during summer and winter.
The National Tiger Commission has ordered the conduct of this year's summer wildlife survey. Following this, the wildlife survey work began from May 24 to 31 in all the four wildlife sanctuaries of the Pollachi forest reserve.
Forest staff underwent training on the survey work at the Attakatti Forest Training Camp on Monday. The wildlife survey work which began on May 24 will continue for eight days, with the forest staff splitting into separate groups.
All the information collected upto the last day is handed over to the Director of the Anaimalai Tiger Reserve.
