Coimbatore: Considering the importance of Foundry sector growth which is the called as the mother of all industries, Foundries Development Foundation (FDF) has signed joint Venture with Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation(TIDCO) to establish 'Centre of Excellence' at a cost of Rs.32 crores in 'CODISSIA' Industrial Park Limited premises Moperipalayam.
Castings is one of the main raw materials used in almost all products manufacturing. Overall Industry sector growth is determined by the Foundry sector performance. This is the reason why the Foundry sector is called as Mother of All Industries.
Industrial city Coimbatore is known for casting manufacturing both nationally and globally. There are more than 600 foundries established across the district among which 400 foundries belongs to MSME category.
Foundry Industry, is a core sector industry on which 75% of Coimbatore GDP is dependent on, either directly or indirectly. In the past few Years, demand on the Foundry Industry has evolved in order meet the emerging Quality & Quantity needs, apart from increased strength to weight ratio and closer dimensional tolerances. This calls for developing both Modern Methods and People to understand and manufacture metal castings to suit these needs.
A few eminent Industrialists, Chaired by Late C.R.Swaminathan (CRS), in Coimbatore envisaged the need for an exclusive Skill Development and Process Excellence Centre for Foundry Sector. Thus the evolution of Foundries Development Foundation (FDF), a Section 8, not for profit Company in Coimbatore.
Since inception FDF has been working on a few areas critical to improve the performance of Coimbatore Engineering Industries to Global standards. Today FDF has 3 verticals - Material Exchange, Centre of Excellence and Exhibition & Conferences, each focused on optimising Foundry Processes and Outputs.
FDF Material Sourcing (FMS) is platform to bring together Foundry Needs and Supplier Capabilities. So far, about Rs.150Cr+ transactions have been carried out through FMS , resulting in considerable savings to both Foundries and Suppliers.
FDF Centre of Excellence (FDF COE) envisaged to create a Hands on Skill Development of Metallurgically Sound Castings. FDF COE will be established at a cost of Rs.32Crs in CODISSIA INDUSTRIAL PARK Moperipalayam.
This is a JV project with TIDCO as the partner and Contribution from Members of Coimbatore Foundries and User Industries. FDF COE will house a Modern Foundry Complex with all Casting Manufacturing Processes inbuilt for providing the required Hands on Skilling of Foundry Technicians and Engineers, apart from being an extended arm for the Manufacturing Sector to develop Metal Castings. FDF COE shall consist of both Ferrous and Non Ferrous Casting Development and Manufacturing.
FDF Exhibition (Inter foundry) and Conference is planned as a Bi Annual Event at CODISSIA Trade Fair Complex to facilitate knowledge transfer and adoption. This Exhibition & Conference shall be focussed on Mid Management Professionals and Technicians in the Metal Castings Value Chain.
Shortly, FDF also expects to bring in European Collaborations and Leading Instituitions for Foundry Skill Development and Casting Excellence.
The long felt need of Coimbatore Engineering Industries is becoming a reality.
Foundries Development Foundation (FDF) team met Mr Pankaj kumar Bansal , Chairman & M.D - TIDCO and signed joint sector - promoter’s Agreement.
