Gyanvapi Masjid case: SDPI party protests in Coimbatore against Court order

The SDPI party cadres urged the Central and State Governments to uphold the rule of law without resorting to the machinations of religious forces.

Coimbatore: SDPI party cadres protested against the Court order with regard to the sealing of the Gyanvapi Masjid case in Uttar Pradesh.

A Varanasi Court ordered the sealing of a section of the Gyanvapi Masjid based on the contention of a Hindu man who had filed a petition seeking a field inspection of the mosque claiming that there was a Shiva lingam in the area where Islamists clean the area of light for prayers.

"The Supreme Court should intervene and quash the Varanasi Court order which was blatantly violating the Places of Worship Act 1991. We insist that the Central and State Governments should uphold the rule of law without resorting to the machinations of religious forces in the Coimbatore District," stated SDPI party cadres during the protest.

The protest was led by Ukkadam, Valliyamai Bakery Front District General Secretary A A Abdul Qadir. Coimbatore Regional President Raja Hussain and Women's India Movement Coimbatore District President Barita Pesum also addressed the protesters.

Party executives, including SDPI-Coimbatore District Chairman A Mustafa and over 100 volunteers including women, raised slogans against the Court order during the protest.
