Corporation officials seize 67 kg of banned plastic bags at Coimbatore Poo Market, Vadavalli

The officials also imposed a fine of Rs.12,600 and raised awareness about the ban on the use of plastic bags through loudspeakers.



Coimbatore: 67 kg of banned plastic bags were seized and a fine of Rs.12,600 was imposed on violators at the Coimbatore Poo Market and Vadavalli.

The use of plastic bags has been banned in Tamil Nadu since 2019. Also, only approved bags with straps or high micron were advised to be used. As a result, Corporation officials in Coimbatore inspect shops, restaurants and markets regularly, and impose fines on shops that use plastic bags in violation of the ban. Officials also raise awareness on the harmful effects of using and disposing of plastic bags.



In this regard, a team of health inspectors conducted a surprise inspection at the Poo Market and Vadavalli areas in Coimbatore.



After seizing about 67 kg of plastic bags banned by the Tamil Nadu Government from the shops, they also raised awareness about the ban on the use of plastic bags, through loudspeakers. Warnings were also issued to various shops that violated the ban.
