SIMA President meets Vice President in Coimbatore to hand over petition seeking curb in cotton price hike

Ravi Sam, President of the Southern India Mills' Association met the Vice President of India, Venkaiah Naidu regarding the crisis faced by the industry due to the rise in cotton prices.


Coimbatore: Even as the cotton mills industry faces various difficulties due to the unprecedented rise in cotton prices, only some mills are partially operational.

As the industry continues to urge the Central Government to curb this unprecedented rise in cotton prices, a petition was filed on behalf of the Southern India Mills' Association (SIMA).



Ravi Sam, the President of the Southern India Mills' Association (SIMA) met the Vice President of India, Venkaiah Naidu who is presently visiting Coimbatore and staying at the Coimbatore Guest House. He raised the issue of the crisis facing the industry due to the unprecedented rise in cotton prices and petitioned the Vice President to take immediate action to curb the price rise.

He also urged the Vice President to increase air connectivity from Coimbatore to other states and abroad. In particular, the SIMA President explained to the Vice President how the inability to travel from Coimbatore International Airport to other states and foreign countries is stunting growth since textile products and other industries are booming in Coimbatore, Tirupur and Erode districts.
