Meteorologists predict 39 percent more than the average summer rainfall of 120 mm in Coimbatore.
Coimbatore: The Meteorological office has forecast thundershowers in Coimbatore district on May 17 and 18. According to meteorologists, Coimbatore is likely to receive more rainfall by the end of May, when the summer season ends.
Coimbatore district has been facing hot afternoons and wet evenings during the past few weeks. In the past couple of days, there have been light showers and occasional heavy rains in the city. While it rained in the city at midnight on Monday, the suburbs of Pollachi, Thondamuthur, Mettupalayam and Sulur also received moderate to heavy rains. The sky was overcast over Coimbatore on Tuesday morning too.
Due to continuous rains, cold weather had prevailed throughout Coimbatore district in the past few weeks leaving locals overjoyed since the heat had subsided. Coimbatore district received 167.8 mm of rainfall from March 1 to May 16, this year, constituting 39 percent more than the average summer rainfall of 120-mm during this period.
