Tamilnadu Home Secretary Prabakar has ordered the cancellation of 31,076 cases registered for violating COVID-19 guidelines during the curfew in Coimbatore.
Coimbatore: Cases registered for violating corona curfew in Coimbatore have been canceled.
Due to the increase in the incidence of corona in Tamil Nadu, a complete curfew was in effect from 20.1.2020 to 17.5.2022. Police across Tamil Nadu were enforcing a complete curfew as ordered by the government to prevent the spread of the disease.
Also, it was ordered that no one in the public should come out without essential necessities. Cases have been registered against civilians and motorists district-wise across the state, including Chennai and Coimbatore, for spreading the disease in violation of the order.
Similarly, when the e-pass was in force, cases were registered against persons who forged it and went outside. In that regard, 10-lakh cases were registered against the public and motorists across the state.
On February 19, Chief Minister MK Stalin announced in the legislature that all cases registered on behalf of the police during the Corona curfew would be canceled.
Following this announcement, Tamil Nadu Home Secretary Prabakar has sent an urgent circular to all Zonal IGs, Commissioners of Police and District Superintendents.
In it, ‘During the Corona curfew, about 10 lakh cases were registered against those who violated the curfew order, spread rumors and spread untrue news.
Of these, all other cases are dropped in the public interest, except for cases registered for specific offenses involving violence, obtaining and using an e-pass in an improper manner, and obstruction of work by the police.
In that regard, 8 lakh 98 thousand 948 cases are being canceled across the state including Chennai in the interest of the public. He said the respective IGs, Commissioners of Police and District Superintendents should take action in this regard.
Of these, 8,089-cases were dismissed in Coimbatore alone and a total of 31,076-cases were dismissed as 22,987-cases in the suburbs. Copies of the order have been sent to the Western Zone IG and the Municipal Commissioner of Police.
