With the daily power demand exceeding 17,000 MW during the summer, the Tamil Nadu government has ordered a halt to wind mill power generation, much to the shock of industry.
Coimbatore: The government has issued an order to stop one-third wind mill power generation in Tamil Nadu, causing shock among the industry.
With the daily power demand exceeding 17,000 MW during the summer, the Tamil Nadu government has ordered a halt to wind mill power generation, much to the shock of industry.
Renewable energy, including wind mill power, plays a key role in meeting the growing demand for electricity. A wind mill power generation infrastructure has been set up in Tamil Nadu to generate 8,600 MW of electricity.
The wind season in Tamil Nadu is usually from April to October. However, the season for wind mill power generation started on March 15, a month earlier than usual this year.
Daily power consumption in Tamil Nadu has crossed 17 thousand MW due to the impact of summer sun. In such a situation, the Tamil Nadu government has ordered a grid curtailment, which has come as a shock to the industry.
Commenting on this the Indian Wind Power Generators Association said, “Electricity demand is increasing not only in TN but across the country. The normal life of the people has been affected due to power outages in many states. The impact of summer sun is increasing in Tamil Nadu. Daily power consumption has crossed 17,000 MW. Wind mill farms account for about 30 percent of daily electricity consumption.
With the wind blowing well, the Tamil Nadu government has ordered a one-third halt to wind power generation. This has come as a huge shock to all of the industry. The government should come forward to make good use of wind farms that generate electricity using naturally available air without harming the environment.
Excess electricity can be sold to other sectors or other states to meet the demand of Tamil Nadu. The Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation Limited (TANGEDCO) has sold 4.5 lakh units of electricity, which was more than enough to meet the one-day demand last week. Therefore, the Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation Limited (TANGEDCO) will be able to generate good revenue if it uses the high winds in the coming days to generate electricity generated by wind farms and sell the rest to meet the demand in Tamil Nadu.”
Stopping windmills is not appropriate. The Tamil Nadu government should take immediate action on the issue, said Indian wind mill power generators.
