It was discovered through similar camps that young adults in the age bracket of 35 to 45 years seem to develop diabetes and hypertension, post-Covid and about 10 percent suffer sudden heart attacks and strokes.
Coimbatore: Coimbatore Press Club and AGS Healthcare joined hands to conduct a free Master Health Check-up camp for all frontline workers of the media fraternity who were commended for struggling hard to report news right through the pandemic.

The camp was inaugurated by G S Sameeran, the Coimbatore District Collector at a private event in AGs Healthcare campus. Dr. Adityan Guhan, Director, AGs Healthcare delivered the inaugural address while Dr. Janani Adityan, Director, The Thol, delivered the final vote of thanks.
AGs Healthcare and AGs Master Health Check-up Center, under the directorship of Dr. Adityan Guhan was founded in April 2021 in order to detect diabetes and hypertension at the earliest, to save families and and prevent economic and emotional trauma.
"We have treated over 1500 patients at home during the quarantine imposed when the three Covid waves were at their peak. We have observed that post-Covid, 80 percent of young adults in the age bracket of 35 to 45 years seem to develop diabetes and hypertension, and among them, about 10 percent suffer sudden heart attacks and strokes. To prevent this, we have been working hard to spread awareness for annual master health check-ups where the risk nullifies," said Dr. Adityan Guhan, Director, AGs Healthcare.
"Another shocking revelation was when we conducted a week-long free master health check-up camp for this World Health Day, from April 7 onwards for the general public. We allowed 50 registrations per day, so we had seen around 300 patients, totally. Amongst the 300 patients, 180 of them were diagnosed with diabetes or hypertension and amongst them, 120 were young adults which was a real shock," added Dr. Adityan Guhan.
Dr. Adityan Guhan also reiterated the fact that people are less aware of the complications (mortality and morbidity) that diabetes and hypertension can produce, thereby having to go to ICU at a later date. "This involves a lot of financial support from the family which usually is scarce and they suffer a lot. All of this can be avoided if these diseases are diagnosed early and treated adequately. So, we recommend annual master health check-ups.
For any disease, prevention is better than cure. So apart from the master health check-ups, one should be careful of the diet, eating habits and sedentary lifestyle if present, since stress is increasing day-by-day due to competition, post-pandemic recovery etc. We should keep ourselves fit and for that, one has to cut out all processed carbs, junk food, sugars, salt, alcohol, tobacco in any form, high-fat food. Working out for 30 mins a day, for at least five days a week is a must. By doing so, you can for sure push back the onset of diabetes and hypertension," he concluded.
