Autopsy reports confirms 20-year-old elephant died due to bleeding in lungs and heart near Thadagam

An autopsy has revealed that the elephant which was found dead near Thadagam died of lung failure, due to bleeding in the lungs and heart.


Coimbatore: The 20-year old female elephant which had been rescued near the city's Thadagam area on Thursday, by the Forest Department, succumbed to lung failure due to bleeding in the lungs and heart, as per the autopsy report.



The pachyderm was rescued in the Chinna Thadagam area of Coimbatore on Thursday. After the Forest Department's veterinarians arrived at the spot, they collected the leaking fluid from the body of the dead elephant and sent it for anthrax examination. It was then confirmed that the elephant had not been infected with anthrax. Following this, a medical team led by veterinarian Sukumar conducted an autopsy on the dead elephant on Friday.



The autopsy revealed that the elephant had suffered from bleeding in the heart and lungs, and ultimately died of lung failure. The doctors who sent the samples collected from the elephant for examination said that the cause of the bleeding would soon be known, based on the results of the study.

The continuous extinction of elephants in the Coimbatore forest for various reasons has caused great grief among foresters and forest enthusiasts.
