AC Induction Motor Manufacturer in Coimbatore; booked for not obtaining BIS certification

Officials from Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) Coimbatore on Thursday booked a motor company in Coimbatore for not obtaining BIS certification for products that falls under mandatory category.


Coimbatore: Officials from Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) Coimbatore on Thursday booked a motor company in Coimbatore for not obtaining BIS certification for products that falls under mandatory category.

According to a release, BIS officials on Thursday raided Stark Motors in Kalapatti, manufacturing 3 phase induction (AC) motor. While BIS certification had to be obtained for manufacturing the above mentioned product, as per 1S 12615, the company had been selling such products without proper certification.

As the products come under mandatory BIS Certification and are used by the common consumers, action was initiated against the offenders under Section 17 of the BIS Act, 2016. The offence is punishable with imprisonment for a term which may extend up to two years or/and with fine not less than two lakh rupees, the release noted.

Meanwhile, Meenakshi Ganesan, Scientist-F & Head of BIS, Coimbatore has cautioned that the general public / dealers / as well as manufacturers be aware of the seriousness of the offense and any information of misuse of ISI mark on consumer products such as Cookers, Motors, LPG stoves, Cement, Steel, Electrical cables, Packaged Drinking Water, Water Heaters, etc..
