Water Levels Continue to Rise in Coimbatore District Dams

Water inflow has increased in Aliyar, Parambikkulam, and Sholayar dams in Coimbatore district. Farmers are rejoicing as water levels continue to rise due to southwest monsoon. Aliyar dam stands at 56.5 feet, Parambikkulam at 29.88 feet, and Solayar at 94.92 feet, according to Water Resources Department.


Coimbatore: Farmers are rejoicing as water inflow continues to increase in the major dams of Coimbatore district - Aliyar, Parambikkulam, and Sholayar - due to the southwest monsoon. According to today's (August 7) status released by Water Resources Department officials, the current water levels and inflow details of the three dams have been published.


Aliyar dam, located near Anaimalai, has a total capacity of 120 feet. As of today's status, the water level stands at 56.5 feet due to inflow from the dam's catchment areas. The inflow to the dam is 379 cubic feet per second. Water is being released from the dam at 100 cubic feet per second. Officials stated that water inflow to the dam continues to decrease due to reduced rainfall.


Parambikkulam dam near Pollachi has a total capacity of 72 feet. As of today's status, the water level has reached 29.88 feet. Additionally, the dam has an inflow of 1,913 cubic feet per second. Water is being released at 60 cubic feet per second. The water level continues to rise due to the southwest monsoon, bringing joy to farmers.


Sholayar dam near Valparai has a total capacity of 160 feet. In this situation, as per today's status, the water level has reached 94.92 feet. Furthermore, Solayar dam has an inflow of 2,734 cubic feet per second, and 1,630 cubic feet per second of water is being released. Water Resources Department officials stated that the dam's water level continues to rise.


These dams play a crucial role in the agricultural welfare of Coimbatore district. The water level in the dams is expected to increase further as the southwest monsoon continues. It is hoped that farmers will have adequate water facilities in the coming days.
