The Tirupur City Commissioner, AG Babu IPS has stated that the details of North Indian workers in all the knitwear factories in the city is gathered in connection with the pawnshop robbery case and a gang from the north is undergoing investigation
Tirupur:Police are investigating a gang from the North in connection with kilos of gold, silver and cash that was looted from a pawnshop in Tirupur.
Jayakumar from Tirupur runs a jewellery pawn shop in front if his house. He had relocated and ran the shop every day from the new location. On the 3rd of February, Jayakumar locked the shop after business hours and left home. He was shocked to find the doors open, and also found that 3 kg of gold, 9 kg of silver articles and cash were stolen.
Upon Jayakumar’s information, a team led by Commissioner AG Babu investigated the crime scene, registering a case and 5 special teams were formed to nab the robbers. The CCTV footage from the shop, tower locations and footage from the Tirupur Railway station revealed that a gang from the North were headed to Bihar.
Police have brought a gang from the northern state to Tiruppur and are investigating the robbery of a jewellery pawn shop in Tiruppur.
City Police Commissioner A G Babu questioned the workers of the northern state working in all hosiery companies in Tiruppur city. The Commissioner’s timely information to the Nagpur police, led to the arrest of the gang, assisted by the railway police. The gang in question was arrested by the railway police near Nagpur on a train.
The city police today arrested four persons from Bihar, Makthab Alam, Badrul, Mohammad Subhan and Tilak brought to Tirupur on Monday and the 3.25 kg gold, 28 kg of silver and 15 lakh rupees were confiscated from them.
City Police Commissioner A G Babu, who later met the press, said that after the robbery at Tirupur pawn shop, five special teams were formed and the investigation was expedited. The electricity connection and CCTV cameras were disconnected from the shop by the gang when the robbery took place. However, CCTV footage from various places and investigations revealed that the gang was to travel by train to Chennai and from there by train to their hometown. He said the culprits were followed and arrested in Nagpur. The police is investigating if anyone else is involved in the robbery.
He said that the CCTV cameras available at the spot of the robbery and subsequent areas played significant role to nab the gang. The railway police and Maharashtra state police, extended full cooperation, thus helping in the speedy capture of the robbers.
He said details have been sought about the workers of the northern state working in hosiery companies in all parts of Tirupur city to prevent such incidents from happening in future and the police will investigate whether there is already any criminal case against the gang after receiving the full details. He also said that 1200 surveillance cameras are planned to be installed at 442 locations at an estimated cost of Rs 12 crore for the safety of Tirupur city. He said the arrested persons will be produced in the court after interrogating. The City Police Commissioner congratulated the police for their quick action in cracking the crime and nabbing the culprits.
