The public caught hold of one of the two men who were chopping off the sandalwood tree grown at a private garden in Panapatti near Negamam area and handed them over him to the police
Pollachi: A 20-year-old has been arrested for trying to steal sandalwood bars from tree from a private garden.
Sandalwood tree is grown at a private- owned estate near Panapatti next to Negamam in Coimbatore. At this stage, two young men were cutting down a sandalwood tree in the garden early Sunday morning. A milkman who was passing that way called out for public help witnessing the incident after which the duo tried to flee the spot.
One of them stumbled and fell and was caught by the public. The youth, who sustained serious injuries in the fall, was admitted to Pollachi government hospital for treatment. Negamam police were later informed about the same. Police rushed in and questioned the injured youth. The youth was identified asMuthukumar, (20) from Dindigul. He was staying in Coimbatore's Othakkal mandapam area and works as a painter.
The police then registered a case and arrested Muthukumar and have launched the search for his friend, Siva Magudapathi who fled the scene.
