The Civil supplies officials were on a raid on the Pollachi Palakkad Road. Two persons smuggling 200 kg of ration Rice in TVS XL were stopped, arrested and the vehicle was seized.
Civil Supplies CID Pollachi Unit Inspector of Police Gopinath ordered sub inspector Thyagarajan and Chief Constable Kalimuthu Ramesh Kumar to conduct vehicle searches near Coimbatore to Palakkad Road Kuniyamuthur Walk-off Petrol pump at 3 pm on 7th March. Kombarasan (a) A Karthik, (32),son of Jayapal smuggled about 200 kg of ration rice meant for public distribution in a two-wheeler.
Karthik admitted to him and his friend Pichamuthu, (42) planned to sell ration rice in black market in Kerala purchasing them at lower price here. The duo had bought ration rice from Kuniyamuthur. Police subsequently launched hunt for Pichamuthu and nabbed him hoarding 900 kg of ration rice at a place behind the Kuniyamuthur Bus Stand.
The duo were arrested and the, rice and two wheeler was taken to the police station. A case has been registered and the two men were in judicial custody.
