Youth from Coimbatore joins Ukraine army amid Russian attack

The central and state intelligence authorities are investigating the annexure of a college student from Coimbatore in the Ukrainian paramilitary force.


Coimbatore:The central and state internal affairs authorities are investigating the annexure of a college student from Coimbatore in the Ukrainian paramilitary force.

Ravichandran, a furniture businessman belongs to the Thudiyalur Subramaniapalayam area of Coimbatore. His son, Sai Nikesh had been studying aviation at National Aerospace University in Ukraine since 2019 and worked part-time for a private company.

The ongoing Russia-Ukraine war in Ukraine has led to the return of Indians through special aircraft and military aircraft. Sai Nikesh who was unable to be reached by the family since the war began worried the family.

Ravichandran's family was shocked when media reports revealed that a Tamil Nadu youth had joined the Ukrainian paramilitary force. They immediately sent an e-mail to the Indian Embassy in Ukraine. After two days of no response, the Indian Embassy has since confirmed that Sai Nikesh joined Ukraine’s paramilitary forces. He has also said that he will continue to work there.

Meanwhile, the central and state intelligence agencies are investigating the matter, visited Ravichandran’s house and questioned the family about Sai Nikesh. Photographs at Sai Nikesh's room were full of pictures of him in military uniform. It was revealed that he aspired to join the army here, and tried twice but was rejected on the basis of height.



While he had been staying in Ukraine, President Zelensky joined the military and also urged the public who are capable to join the forces as the war was raging there. Sai’s family in Coimbatore is very apprehensive as the war in Ukraine is intense. The family is worried and did not speak to the media.
