Hemanth Pulwaria, an Airforce Sergeant in Sulur Air Base was cheated of Rs.1.83 lakhs from his credit card account by a man posing to be official from Citibank’s Credit Card Customer Service.
Coimbatore: An Airforce officer was robbed of Rs.1.83 lakhs from his account by a man pretending to speak from Citibank’s customer service department.
Hemant Pulwariya, (36), is a sergeant at Sulur Air Force Base, Coimbatore. Reportedly he received multiple phone calls after he searched for CitiBank’s Customer Care Number and one of them introduced himself as the Credit Card Customer Service Officer. Hemanth was asked about his issues, and details including Hemanth’s birthday was collected.
Shortly afterward, Rs.1.83 lakhs was debited from Hemanth’s Credit Card account. Realizing the scam, Hemanth lodged a complaint with the bank to stop the immediate disbursement of money. He also registered a complaint on the cybercrime website.
Coimbatore District Cyber Crime Branch Inspector Jayadevi has registered a case in connection with the incident. Cyber police have launched an investigation.
