The couple who were seen asking for help and protection in a video clip shot near Lakshmi Mills junction in Coimbatore have demanded action on the girl’s family for alleged kidnapping and death threats.
Coimbatore: A couple who alleged that they were kidnapped by the girl's family in Coimbatore and issued death threats have demanded action against the girl’s family.
Vigneshwaran (22) of Maniyakarampalayam and Sneha of Saravanampatti eloped and had a registered marriage on March 1, 2022, after both families objected to their 8-year-long relationship based on the grounds that both belonged to different communities.
They also sought the protection of the Saravanampatti Police after the wedding, after which both families agreed to leave them alone. However, on March 2 at around 10 pm, the girl’s family reportedly threatened to kill the couple and kidnapped them in a car, brandishing a knife. The two cried out for help when the car stopped at the Lakshmi Mills signal on Avinashi Road.
The public rescued the two and soon after, a video of them begging for help and protection went viral on social media.
The Kaattoor police took the couple and are presently conducting investigations for the past four hours with both parents. The couple has however demanded protection from and action against those threatening to kill them.
