Tirupur: A couple tragically lost their lives in Tirupur when their auto overturned into a well near Muthur. Their 12-year-old daughter survived with injuries.
Vadivel (52) from Pugalur Vangalampalayamarea of Karur district, wife Bhanumathi (48) and daughter Agalya (12) lived together. Vadivel worked as a stage decorator and erected stages for temple festivals. On Thursday morning, after removing the stage he had erected for the festival of Chinnamuthur Chellandiamman temple, Vadivel was returning to town in his auto after loading a generator and platform items in his auto.
He was accompanied by his wife and daughter. Vadivel reportedly lost control while passing through the Chennakkalmedu area near Muthur and plunged into the garden well of Ramalingam by the roadside.
The auto submerged in the 60-feet well. 12-year-old Agalya managed to swim and escape since she was seated in the rear of the vehicle, but her parents drowned. On hearing her cry for help, the public and gardeners working nearby rushed to rescue the family but since the auto was completely submerged in the well, they could not be rescued.
Police and fire personnel at Vellakoil rushed to the spot and tried to rescue Vadivel and Banumathi.

A giant crane was brought in to recover the auto. After about eight hours of struggle, the auto was pulled out of the well but unfortunately, Vadivel and Banumathi did not survive.
The bodies were sent to the Kangeyam Government Hospital for postmortem. Agalya, who sustained minor injuries is being treated at the hospital. The Vellakoil police are conducting an investigation with regard to the accident.
