Coimbatore: The talks held between the textile producers and power loom owners have ended in agreement and hence the power loom owners will withdraw their strike on Wednesday, March 2.

Power loom owners who were on strike demanding their wage hike decided to end their agitation on Wednesday after talks held with textile producers turned out favorable. A General Council will meet tomorrow to conclude the strike.

Power loom owners weaving for wages in Coimbatore and Tirupur district for the past eight years have been holding a multi-stage agitation demanding wage hike and a consultative meeting was held on February 28 in the presence of the District Collector of Coimbatore, G S Sameeran.

The meeting was held on the second day of the strike on Tuesday, in the presence of the Coimbatore District Collector and the District Collector of Tirupur, S Vineeth. The talks proved to be successful and ended in agreement. Accordingly, it was decided to increase wages by 19 percent for Somanur and 15 percent for other varieties.

It may be noted that in the talks chaired by Minister Saminathan last November, a 23 percent agreement was signed for Somanur and 20 percent for other varieties.
