Online scam in Coimbatore; four lose lakhs of money to fraudsters

Coimbatore: The city cyber crime police have registered 4 cases and are on the hunt for the online scam gang that swindled lakhs of money from public.

As many as four people were cheated of money through online apps, business links luring them with attractive returns in Coimbatore. The cybercrime police have launched a serious investigation to nab the fraudsters.

Saranya, (33), from Ganesapuram near Annur, works as a sales coordinator for a private company. Based on an online website’s information, Saranya deposited Rs.7.23 lakhs. She was promised that if she deposits a certain amount and buys and sells goods, she will get a higher amount as commission.

Saranya also purchased and sold expensive items like computers, mobile phones, and laptops, but upon not receiving the promised commission and continued persistence of selling items, she lodged a complaint with the Coimbatore Cybercrime police. A case has been registered and investigations are underway.

In another incident, Muthamizh Selvan of Annur, an engineer in a private company deposited Rs.5.40 lakh through the app 'Fund Mela', believing that if a certain amount is deposited, he will get a higher amount as commission. As the company once again pulled out without paying him, he registered compliant with the cybercrime police.

Arulraj, (40), from Coimbatore is a Government School Teacher. Arulraj was robbed of Rs.2,22,750 from his credit card without his knowledge and authorization. A complaint has been registered with regard to the same.

Harsavardhan, (37), from Kunnathur near Kovilpalayam, works in iron marketing. He has purchased goods from a Kolkata-based private steel company and paid for the past eight years through a specific e-mail address. Harshavardhan, who was asked to pay for the company through a different e-mail, sent Rs.10 lakh, but later realized of the scam. Harshavardhan lodged a complaint. The Coimbatore city Cybercrime police have intensified their investigations to nab the scam gang with 4 cases registered.
