A 20-year-old boy has been sentenced to 10-year prison term and Rs.20,000 penalty in connection with sexual harassment of a 17-year old girl under pretext of marriage.
Coimbatore: A 20-year-old boy is sentenced to a 10-year prison term and Rs.20,000 penalty in connection with sexual harassment of a 17-year old girl under pretext of marriage.
Vignesh, (20), from Kotangipatti next to Aliyar in Coimbatore works as a driver. Reportedly, Vignesh developed a friendship with a 11th-grade girl and lured her into marriage in 2019. The duo eloped to Palani to get married. Based on the complaint lodged by the girl’s parents the Aliyar police investigated and nabbed Vignesh within 24-hours of the complaint lodged.
Investigation revealed that the girl had also been sexually harassed, which later led to the arrest of Vignesh under POCSO Act along with the accused being charged under the abduction and prevention of child marriage act.
The case was being heard in the POCSO Special Court in Coimbatore. The hearing was over and Justice Kulasekaran pronounced Vignesh guilty with 10 years imprisonment and fined Rs.20,000 for sexually assaulting the girl.
