The wastes emitted from the beverage factory near Jalathur Village in Pollachi have been contaminating the farmlands nearby and the farmers have requested quicker action against the factory. There are thousands of acres of agricultural land in areas including Mannur and Jalathur under the Aliyar irrigation basin near Pollachi.
A privately-owned beverage factory is functioning near Jalathur village and the waste discharged from the beverage factory has been flowing into the PAP branch channel for the past few years. The farmers allege that the factory has been functioning without permission.
Farmers from Pollachi submitted a petition to the Sub-Collector, Thackare Shubham to take action as the agricultural lands in the area were being affected, the groundwater level was receding and the environment was being affected due to foul smell.

The farmers had also carried the sewage in a bottle and appealed to the sub-Collector to press immediate action against the private beverage factory and steps to prevent sewage from flowing into the irrigation canal.
