Youth attacked in Pollachi naming his community; family stage protest demanding action on attackers

More than 50 relatives of a youth who was attacked in Pollachi, calling out names on his community staged a dharna demanding action against the attackers. The crowd dispersed after Sub-Collector assures of taking action.


Pollachi: A Dalit youth was attacked in Pollachi during a temple festival. More than 50 family members of the victim staged a dharna at the Sub-collectorate demanding immediate action.

The Kaliamman Temple festival is being held in Pakkothipalayam village.Reportedly, Aravind, a youth from Kettimelampudur and his friends who had arrived for the festival a day before, was standing near a shop. The boys were asked to move from the place by a group of people including Rasu from the same area and were attacked by the name of the caste.



A severely injured Aravind was rescued and admitted to the hospital, while more than 10 persons, including Rasu, have been booked under the Prevention of Atrocities Act after they lodged a complaint with the Kottur police station. More than 50 relatives of Aravind yesterday, on 25th February stormed the Pollachi Collectorate and staged a dharna demanding immediate arrest of those involved, and raised slogans demanding arrest and action.

The police and Sub-collector Thackare Shubam Dyandeorao held talks with the agitators after which they dispersed upon being assured that action will be taken against those involved.
