‘Masi’ Car festival begins in Pollachi; ceremony to be held for three days from 9 to 11 March

Devotees pour turmeric water on the temple till the end of the chariot festival. The temple authorities said that from 9th to 11th, March, there will be a 3-day silver chariot programme in a row. On the occasion of Masi Chariot Festival, Mariamman Temple in Pollachi Bazaar, Thirukkambam (pole) was planted. Women devotees gathered to offer turmeric water to the pole. The temple administration has stated that the festival will be held for three days from 9th to 11th March, during which Silver Chariot Procession will be held.

This year's Masimadha Chariot Festival started with devotees fasting on the night of 15th February, at Mariamman Temple in Pollachi Bazaar. Special abishek pujas are performed 3 times a day. This was followed by a ceremony to plant a temple in front of the temple two days ago, which was brought with festivities from the Kariakaliyamman temple to the temple pond (theppakulam).

The pole adorned with Nine grains, Navadaniyam, was brought in a procession and special pujas were performed to the deity and the pole was planted on the pedestal in front of the temple. Following this, women devotees visited the temple from different parts of the city from early yesterday morning and worshipped the goddess by pouring turmeric water on the temple post planted in front of the temple.

Devotees will continue to pour turmeric water on the temple till the end of the chariot festival. This will be followed by a ‘Poovodu’ on the 1st, which will follow for a few days. Temple authorities said that the flag hoisting ceremony will be held and the silver chariot procession will be held for 3 consecutive days from 9th to 11th.
