The newly elected ward councillor in Cheranmanagar has tonnes of challenges ahead of him as the vicinity has been in bad conditions for the past years
Coimbatore: The ward 22 of Coimbatore Corporation, East Zone, Cheranmanagar is posing a plethora of challenges for the new DMK councillor and the residents of this ward await the welfare schemes.
Coimbatore Corporation has thousands of habitations in Cheranmanagar and surrounding areas within the Eastern Region. Earlier, there were more than 25,000 voters in Coimbatore Corporation when it was part of ward 32. At present, after the reorganisation of the ward, the area falls under ward 22 of Corporation and has a voter strength of 13,788.
Twenty years ago, there were only 568 houses in Cheranmanagar where, the State transport corporation officials and employees occupied the area with houses under A B C sections. However, now thousands of houses have been newly constructed in the neighbourhoods.
Located on Vilankurichi Road, not only apartments, but also various commercial establishments including IT companies, educational institutions and industries are functioning in the vicinity. Vilankurichi Road also connects Avinashi Road to Sathi Road, Mettupalayam Road and heavy vehicles are operated frequently on a daily basis along Vilankurichi Road on behalf of the steel distribution industry located near Thanneer Pandhal.
Thousands of motorists use the road every day. But for the past 10 years, the Vilankurichi Road has not been repaved and the roads are dilapidated, making them impossible to use during rains. This has also lead to several trolls on social media, and the residents also face inconvenience due to the sewer issues.
Despite multiple complaints no action has been taken and the locals face health hazards, added with having to deal with the improper disposal of garbage. The ward had been under AIADMK’s control for the past 25 years, and with the new appointed DMK Councillor, history is created.
The AIADMK MLAs, Jayaram and Arun Kumar were being elected in the Singanallur and Kavundampalayam constituency in the recently concluded Assembly elections, despite various issues. However, the long due unattended basic amenities in the area has now changed the mindset of the locals, and they have thus elected a councillor from DMK, and Shanmugasundaram, a candidate who contested for AIADMK, has lost his deposit amount.
Coimbatore Babu, alias Selvakumar of DMK has tonnes of challenges ahead of him in the area.
