Assistant Returning Officer in Coimbatore alleges candidates' agents caused disruption during vote counting

Coimbatore: The Assistant Returning Officer, Karuppathal has lodged a complaint of candidates’ agents causing obstruction during vote counting for Ward No. 32 in the GCT counting center for 100 Wards of Coimbatore Corporation.

With the demand for re-election in Ward No. 32 in Coimbatore, the Assistant Returning Officer, Karuppathal who presided over the vote counting for the 32nd Ward at the Government College of Technology has alleged that the agents of BJP, AIADMK, Naam Tamilar Party and independent candidates were obstructing the counting process. She has lodged a complaint with the police with regard to the issue.

Karuppathal served as Assistant Returning Officer of Coimbatore Corporation. She was in charge of conducting elections for five Wards of the Corporation. On February 22, vote counting was held for the urban local polls. The complaint said that four candidates' agents harassed her, created chaos and shouted at her to prevent her from performing her legal duties. Similarly, the Assistant Returning Officer also complained that the agents of the AIADMK, BJP, Naam Tamilar Party and Makkal Needhi Maiam Party candidates obstructed the counting of votes in Ward No. 46.

The Saibaba Colony police have registered a case against the concerned candidate and agents under three sections.
