The Bharatiya Janata Party has lost its deposits in 86 Wards in the city in the Urban Local Body elections held in Tamil Nadu.
Coimbatore: In Coimbatore, the Bharatiya Janata Party registered zero wins and lost its deposits in 86 Wards, out of the 97 Wards that the party contested in.
The Urban Local Polling in Coimbatore was held on February 19 with the counting of votes completed on February 22. The DMK alliance has won a landslide victory in all districts across Tamil Nadu, including Coimbatore.
The DMK alliance won 96 seats in Coimbatore Corporation. Out of 100 Wards, AIADMK won only in 3 Wards and the SDPI party won in one Ward. The Bharatiya Janata Party which contested in 97 Wards in the city was routed without a single win. Despite the lack of success in registering a single win, it is the complete loss of deposits in all 86 wards for BJP that has become a source of discussion among both politicians and people in the district.
The debacle of the BJP which engaged in intensive vote campaigning by taking the achievements of the Centre to the people, has come as a huge shock to the BJP. BJP contested at 86 Wards including 5, 6, 8, 9, 20, 22, 25, 26, 27, 55, 56, 57, 58, 61 and completely lost their deposits.
Similarly, AIADMK candidates contesting in 100 Wards lost deposits to the candidates who contested against them in Ward 14. It may be noted that the AIADMK candidate lost deposits in Ward 2, 8, 10, 11, 16, 17, 22, 25, 46, 54, 55, 57, 59, 84 and 86 in Coimbatore Corporation.
