Urban local polls; Polling process goes peaceful so far in Coimbatore

Coimbatore: The Coimbatore District Collector Dr GS Sameeran has stated that the polling process has been going on peaceful in the city and the monitoring has also been taking place intensively in all the booths.

A total of 169 polling booths are being monitored with the help of surveillance cameras at the Corporation office in Coimbatore as they fall under sensitive category.



Coimbatore Election Observer Dr M Govindrao, Coimbatore District Collector Sameeran, Municipal Corporation Returning Officer and Corporation Commissioner Rajagopal Sunkara inspected the monitoring work from the district headquarters.



Coimbatore District Collector Sameeran, who subsequently met the press, said; “Out of 1290 polling booths in Coimbatore Corporation, 169 polling booths are considered as sensitive polling booths. They are under constant live surveillance and we have reviewed it with election observer Govindrao, Returning officer Rajagopal Sunkara. Moreover, there are no serious situations or problems in any polling booths on a large scale and hence polling has been quiet and peaceful so far in Coimbatore.”

He said no police complaint has been filed so far about the issue in Ward 63, so action will be taken against the issue if reported.
