The Coimbatore South MLA and BJP National Women Wing President, Vanathi Srinivasan who arrived at the Kamarajar Matriculation Higher Secondary School was revealed that her name and the voter number was not included in the list there.
She was directed to the CMS School in 9th street Gandhipuram, after checking in the Corporation website.
Addressing the press after, she stated that the election commission has not been focusing on such tiny details properly and said that she doubted if the election will be fair. She said, “This election is a question of honor in Coimbatore. Public might think why to cast vote in local polls, but I urge them to do so, as it is their democratic right and this is where people shall elect a leader for them who will implement their civic needs.”
She said that the public should vote, without neglecting their duty. She informed that there have been serious violations like distribution of gifts, hot boxes, anklets, money to the public for votes, as the city has become a major target for the ruling party.
Voters have been threatened at certain places, candidates were also threatened, and it is a challenge for them to rightly identify the apt person. Mentioning of the demonstration by the AIADMK MLAs in this regard she said that she believes that the people of Coimbatore will decide the right person, as it is a matter of honor.
She also questioned if the election will be fair and transparent, adding that the public were intimidated by providing hotboxes at a private wedding hall in Ramanathapuram. She stated that the police have not taken any action on the issue and it is still unclear on how many such violations have taken place.
She stated that the wards of Coimbatore corporation has been added anew however, the Election Commission has not made proper arrangements, after a confusion occurred with her polling booth.
“It is doubtful how many people will patiently search and cast their votes. The Election Commission conducted this election without any proper arrangements. They have not concentrated properly on any of the procedures.” she said.
