Wage labourer arrested under Prevention of Violence Against Women Act for assaulting an elderly woman with an iron rod in Chikkalampalayam in Kinathukadavu.
Karthik, a labourer is married to Sangeetha and has three daughters. Reportedly Karthik and Sangeetha had regular disputes due to his drinking habit. Following this, Karthik has been staying alone at Chinniyampalayam and working from there for the past month.
Sangeetha lodged a complaint with the Kinathukadavu police, stating that Karthik along with his brother-in-law, Ramesh, (36), arrived at her father’s house and attacked Rajendran, Sangeetha's father and abused Sangeetha. This led to a dispute between them, Ramesh and Karthik attempted to attack Rajendra with an iron rod when Sangeetha and her grandmother Ponnammal stopped him.
Ramesh hit Ponnammal with an iron rod and she is undergoing treatment at Pollachi government hospital. The Kinathukadavu police registered a case under six sections including prevention of female atrocities act and for issuing death threats. Ramesh is arrested and the police in Kinathukadavu have launched a search for Karthik, who is reportedly absconding after the incident.
