55-year old man sentenced to 38 years of imprisonment for sexual harassment of 4-year old girl in Nilgiris

The trial was heard at the Ooty Mahila Court by District Chief Justice Sanjay Baba.


The Nilgiris: A 55-year-old man has been sentenced to a 38-year jail term and slapped Rs.3000 fine for sexually abusing a 4-year old girl in Gudalur.

In 2019, the parents of a 4-year old child filed a complaint at the Gudalur All-Women police station stating that a 55-year old man sexually assaulted their daughter who was playing in the Ovali area of Gudalur in Nilgiris district. The man, Abbas (55) was booked under 4 sections including abduction, torturing, sexually assaulting a child less than 12 years and POCSO.

Earlier Abbas had been arrested and jailed based on the complaint, and the trial was heard at the Ooty Mahila Court. District Chief Justice Sanjay Baba who heard the case on Wednesday, sentenced the accused to 38 years imprisonment under four sections and imposed a fine of Rs.3,000. The accused was then taken to Coimbatore Central Jail.
