Urban Local Body Elections in Coimbatore; Booth slips come with precautionary warning on receiving money for votes

Coimbatore: The Tamil Nadu Election Commission’s booth slip, distributed ahead of the urban local body elections has a precautionary warning against offering/receiving cash for votes, along with Covid guidelines.

The Election Commission of Tamil Nadu is distributing booth slips to the voters ahead of the elections. Election workers are in the process of providing booth slips, door-to-door in 100 wards of municipal corporations. The 'Booth Slip' has warnings against offering, receiving money for a vote, and Covid guidelines. It stated, “It is illegal to pay or receive or benefit in any way to vote and those guilty will be charged under the Representation Of The People Act, 1951.”

Similarly, it also said that the public arriving for casting votes should be wearing face masks, maintain social distancing, and follow covid precautionary guidelines. On the backside of the slip, there is information about 11 eligible identity cards that voters can use to cast votes.
