Coimbatore: The Coimbatore City Police have booked 27 persons including an AIADMK Secretary and are investigating the incident in which DMK administrators were attacked in Coimbatore. The attack was perpetrated on the car and house where DMK functionaries were staying in Coimbatore.
The urban local body election campaign is in full swing and supporters of Minister Senthil Balaji, who is in charge of the Coimbatore District DMK were intensely campaigning across the district. The 10-member team headed by the Karur District Agriculture Team Secretary, Shanmugam is presently staying at a plantation home near Kuniyamuthur Sengulam owned by Santosh, the brother of the DMK candidate contesting in Ward 88 of Coimbatore Corporation.
At about 12.30 pm on Monday, mobs suddenly pelted stones at the house and at the car parked outside, damaging glass windows and car windshields. Raghunathan, a DMK cadre suffered minor injuries and immediately lodged a complaint with the Kuniyamuthur police. Based on the complaint, 27 persons including AIADMK Ward 88 Area Secretary Jagan have been booked and interrogated under seven sections including rioting, threatening to kill and causing injury by a weapon.
