Petition submitted to Coimbatore Collector on DMK Nivetha Senathipathi's alleged distribution of gifts in exchange for votes

An independent candidate contesting in Ward 97 in Coimbatore Corporation had filed the petition with the District Collector.

Coimbatore: An independent candidate contesting in Ward No. 97 has alleged that DMK candidate Nivetha Senathipathi was rewarding the public in exchange for votes in the same Ward in Coimbatore Corporation.

She submitted the petition regarding the violation of the Election Code of Conduct to the Coimbatore District Collector, G S Sameeran.

The Election Code of Conduct came into force ahead of the urban local body polls on February 19 and it has been stipulated that no candidate shall offer money or any kind of a reward for votes.

Niranjana Devi, the independent candidate contesting in Ward 97, demanded that elections should be cancelled in the Ward since Nivetha had flouted the ECC. She also alleged that Nivetha had mentioned her name as Nivethitha instead of Nivetha in the electoral list. The independent candidate demanded that the District Collector take necessary action against Nivetha.
