‘Mayana Puja’ held at Masani Amman temple in Pollachi; Outstation devotees denied permission

The ‘Mayana Puja,’ a prime ritual held as part of the Kundam Thiruvizha in Masani Amman temple was held at midnight on Monday.


Pollachi: The Masani Amman Temple 'Mayana Puja' was held at midnight on Monday in Pollachi.

The Anaimalai Masani Amman Temple Kundam festival in Coimbatore district kick-started on February 1 with flag hoisting on Thai Amavasai. The prime ritual, Mayana Puja, was held at midnight on February 14 at a graveyard on the banks of the Aliyar River passing through Anaimalai.



During the puja, instruments such as Pampai and Udukai were played, with passionate devotees aggressively dancing to the image of the deity, with a bone in the mouth on a mud platform.



On the orders of the District Collector of Coimbatore, devotees from other states and districts were not allowed keeping in mind pandemic protocol. Public from Pollachi Anaimalai attended the 'Mayana Puja.'

The main highlight of the festival is the devotees' "Kundam landing ceremony” which is to be held on February 17. Following this, the flag-lowering ceremony will be held on February 18 at 9 am, the Manjal Neeratu Vizha at 10.30 am and the Mahamuni Puja at 8 pm. The festival will culminate with a Maha Abishek decorative puja which will be performed at 11.30 am on February 19.
