Ration rice meant to be smuggled to Kerala seized in Coimbatore; Civil Supplies CID on the hunt for smugglers

The Civil Supplies department has seized 1,050-kg of ration rice meant to be smuggled to Kerala on Sunday while officers searched a load auto.


Coimbatore: The Civil Supplies department has seized 1,050-kg of ration rice that was meant to be smuggled to Kerala on Sunday while the inspection officers searched a lonely load auto.

The civil supplies officers, conducted a vehicle search on the orders of Gopinath, Inspector, Pollachi Unit, Civil Supplies CID. The search team comprising of Sub Inspector Thyagarajan Sub Inspector Bharat Nehru and constables at 22:30 p.m. searched an ABE load auto parked at Salem to Palakkad Road, Navakarai State Bank, with the registration number TN 22 CT 0398.

As many as 21 sacks of ration rice weighing about 50-kg each, about 1,050-kg was recovered. The officers seized the vehicle and the ration rice was confiscated and brought to the station for investigation.

Investigations revealed that Selina, (47) from Podanur attempted to hoard the ration rice in Podanur for smuggling it to Kerala. The officers are on the hunt for the driver and the cleaner, in connection with the smuggling.
