DMK-ADMK clash in Coimbatore; Ex-Minister S P Velumani to petition Governor

The former AIADMK Minister S P Velumani will be petitioning the TN Governor after discussions with the apex, against DMK members’ activities, in case the City Commissioner fails to take necessary action.

Coimbatore: Former AIADMK Minister, S P Velumani has stated that a petition will be sent to the Governor on the activities of the DMK against their party in Coimbatore.

Ex-Minister S P Velumani was venting his fury alleging that the police officers were filing false cases on his party men while turning a blind eye to DMK cadres' ill behavior.

A group of AIADMK members had reportedly seized a vehicle carrying gift items in the Sugunapuram area claiming that DMK cadres were involved in bribing the public for votes, on Sunday. The Kuniyamuthur police seized the vehicle upon information. However, nine persons, including the AIADMK spokesperson Kalyana Sundaram were taken to the Ramanathapuram police station, for raising slogans against the ruling party. This resulted in a demonstration by AIADMK cadres including MLAs who gathered in front of the Ramanathapuram police station, since Monday morning.

Five MLAs, including former Minister S P Velumani petitioned the District Collector G S Sameeran and the City Police Commissioner, Pradip Kumar regarding the incident.

S P Velumani, in his petition, alleged that the police were filing false cases against his party and accused DMK of bringing in goondas from Chennai, Karur districts and outlying states to Coimbatore ahead of the elections.

He also demanded that the Collector and City Police Commissioner intervene and conduct the urban local body elections in a peaceful manner.

Addressing a press conference here, S P Velumani stated, “The Government of Tamil Nadu had attacked the public and alternated at various places with the rowdies released from jail from Chennai and Karur districts. The Coimbatore District Police Department is in support of the DMK. Election officials ignored the flaws of DMK men while they relentlessly questioned the AIADMK.

Appropriate action should be taken against the police officer who arrested Kalyanasundaram for torturing him throughout the night. If the Police Commissioner fails to take immediate action, we will consult the party heads and send a letter to the Governor,” warned S P Velumani. He also promised to temporarily suspend the ongoing agitation at the Ramanathapuram police station by the AIADMK members.
