Woman arrested for snatching gold chain from fancy store trader's wife's by spraying pesticide on her face in Coimbatore

The investigation has revealed that the woman is Thavamani from Attukulam village near Melur, Madurai


Coimbatore: Police have arrested a woman who entered in a fancy store in Coimbatore and snatched a gold chain from the wife of the owner by spraying pesticide on her face.

Chandramohan hails from Ranganna Counter Road, Ratnapura, Coimbatore. He runs a fancy shop near the Thandu Mariamman temple on 7th Street in Ratnapura. His wife Selvarani (57) was at the store last afternoon. A woman who came to the shop took some of her belongings and put them on the table and asked Selvarani to pack them in gift paper.

Then, the woman suddenly hugged Selvarani and sprayed pesticide on her face. Then, she tried to snatch the chain from Selvarani's neck. Unable to do so, Selvarani stubbornly clashes with the woman.

However, the woman snatched the 8- sovereign gold chain from Selvarani's neck and fled. Selvarani chased her and ran behind her making noise. Following this, the neighbours came running and grabbed the woman by the hand and handed her over to the Ratnapuri police station.

Later, on the orders of Assistant Commissioner Sukumaran, Inspector Meenakumari arrested the woman, confiscated the chain from her and proceeded with the investigation. The investigation revealed that the woman is Thavamani from Attukulam village near Melur, Madurai. It has also come to light that there is a similar theft case against her in Tirupur.
