Coimbatore: The Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) for the urban local body elections were dispatched to the local bodies, after being examined under the supervision of the Corporation Deputy Commissioner, Sharmila.
The EVMs were sent to the Municipalities and Town Panchayats in Coimbatore district on Wednesday. With one Corporation, 7 Municipalities, and 33 Town Panchayats in Coimbatore going to the polls on February 19, the Electronic Voting machines and control units for the local polls were examined and stored at the Old Passport Office campus in Uppilipalayam and the Corporation School in North Coimbatore.
As many as 2,322 EVMs and 20 percent 'reserves,’ 484 machines were kept ready. Since 18 candidates are contesting in Ward 97, two machines will be used in 19 booths. The Corporation has set aside symbols for the candidates and issued a final list, and ballot sheets have been printed as well.
Starting from February 10 until February 16, the ballot sheets will be installed in the machines. Hence, the machinery allotted to Municipalities and Town panchayats was checked on Wednesday in the presence of the Deputy Commissioner of Municipal Corporation, Sharmila, and dispatched under police protection.
