Nilgiris: The District Forest Officer has warned natives of the Kadanad village in Nilgiris to be extra careful and to not step out of their houses in the evenings after a tiger footprint was spotted in the area.
Forest officials inspected the Kadanad village area after the locals informed of the tiger’s presence for about a week and confirmed the movement of the tiger in the Kadanadu village settlement and agricultural land near Ooty.
The villagers lamented that their livelihood has been affected, as they were afraid to venture out with their cattle for grazing and were unable to do farming, due to the tiger strolling in the area. The forest officials under the chairmanship of District Forest Officer Sachin Tukaram took up the task of installing automatic cameras at the tiger mobile site on Wednesday. They are also closely monitoring the tiger's footprints.
The district forest officer told reporters that after the villagers informed him about the tiger movement, cameras were installed in the area where the predator’s presence has been spotted and steps were taken to capture the tiger after it was spotted on camera. The tiger’s age and its activities are confirmed.
The District Forest Officer has also advised the natives not to venture out of their house at dawn and dusk, due to tiger’s movement.
